Bold Voice. Proven Leader.
Meet Andrea
Bold Voice. Proven Leader.
I am a proud Democrat, a community leader, a mother, a teacher, a wife, an IPS principal, an adopted daughter, a fighter, and an advocate.

My parents adopted my siblings and me, giving us the gift of an incredibly loving and supportive family. I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana surrounded by cousins and aunts and uncles who all helped to shape the person I am today. I graduated from Fort Wayne Snider, where I received the Senior Superlative “Most Likely to Become the First Woman President”. Leadership, championing the rights of others, and working for the common good are values that I have long held.

A lifelong Hoosier, I moved to Indianapolis after graduating from Indiana University to pursue my first teaching job.  I loved teaching English on Indy’s west side in one of the largest high schools in the state. For the past 10 years, I have served as principal of an award-winning K-8 Indianapolis Public School. I earned a Master’s Degree in Language Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Indiana University. I hold a K-12 School Administrator license, license to teach middle and high school English, and a license to teach English as a New Language.

My husband Ryan and I have been married for 15 years. He is the Owner/Art Director of Second Street Creative – so I experience firsthand the joys and challenges of small business ownership and the importance of the creative economy. You will often see us biking on the Cultural Trail with our two school-age children. We love our early 1900s house on the Near Eastside and our welcoming neighbors. As a one-car family, we are privileged to live within walking distance to work, school, shops, and a convenient bus route.

I look forward to getting to know you and your hopes and dreams for State Senate District 46
